Columbus - Ohio State University: Celebration for a Champion

Celebration for a Champion, by sculptor Curtis Patterson, was dedicated in Jesse Owens Plaza, at the north entrance to Ohio Stadium, on May 4, 1984. The abstract sculpture commemorates Jesse Owens' track and field accomplishments, both at the Olympics and at Ohio State. The four pyramid points represent his 1936 Olympic gold medals and the four world records he broke in 1935 at a Big Ten Meet. On the north side of the work, the triangular piece is symbolic of a hurdle. On the west side, the lattice represents his struggle to success. The sculpture cost 0,000 and was funded through a 1.4 million dollar capital improvements bill for the Stadium.

Hosted each year by the Grand Canyon Association, the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art is an annual event that includes 6 days of art related events followed by a month long exhibition in Kolb Studio on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. .

The Celebration of Art features thirty artists from around the country who engage in a plein air competition and exhibition. Visitors have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape. .

Each artist brings a completed studio piece with them and then creates more artwork on site during the "Plein Air on the Rim" and Quick Draw events that takes place in the historic district of Grand Canyon Village. During the auction that follows the Quick Draw event, Visitors have the opportunity to bid on the work and to bring a piece of Grand Canyon home.
Proceeds from this event will support the goal of funding an art venue at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. This permanent home will ensure that future generations of park visitors will be able to view the stunning art collection in the Grand Canyon National Park Museum and Grand Canyon Association Collections. This is a scene from Spring Convocation 2012 Ceremony D, held June 15 at 2pm in the Campus Commons area at the front entrance to the Campus Activity Centre.
The ceremony featured students graduating in the School of Business and Economics.
An Honorary Doctorate was conferred posthumously upon Irving K "Ike" Barber. The Valedictorian was Steven Thompson Holm, graduate of the Bachelor of Business program.
