"The Herdler". This cow was near the centre of Ocean Terminal, on the 1st floor between the escalators.

CowParade is an international public art exhibit that has been featured in major world cities. Fiberglass sculptures of cows are decorated by local artists, and distributed over the city centre, in public places such as train stations, important avenues, and parks. They often feature artwork and designs specific to local culture, as well as city life and other relevant themes. After the exhibition in the city, which lasts many months, the cows are auctioned off and the proceeds donated to charity.

There are a few variations of shape, but the three most common shapes of cow were created by Pascal Knapp, a Swiss-born sculptor who was commissioned to create the cows specifically for the CowParade series of events. Pascal Knapp owns the copyrights to the standing, lying and grazing cow shapes used in the CowParade events.

The concept of "cow parade" has its origins in Zürich, Switzerland, in 1998 by artistic director Walter Knapp, it is based on an idea which was realised in the same city for the first time in 1986: Lions as the symbol of Zurich were painted and then on display throughout the city.

Picture A Day - November 10, 2009 - Blue Bell Creameries in Bronze

The iconic symbol of Blue Bell Ice Cream, the third-largest producer of ice cream in the United States, available in 17 states. In front of their main factory in Brenham, Texas stands the Cow and Bell Statue, which has been the symbol of Blue Bell for over thirty years - visible in silhouette on every half-gallon of frozen dairy goodness. Personally, I'm kinda partial to natural vanilla bean, pistachio almond, and white chocolate almond.

Crop Rotation (Sunset & Cows), Dorset

I've had this one lurking about for ages as I have agonised endlessly about whether or not, and if so, then how to crop it. I love the massive sweep of glowing cloud, but the cows demand a good close-up too. Below is the portrait crop I think I prefer, but I thought I would post the main picture above in the hope people might add notes to show any preferred crops they might have.

Since September I've started shooting everything in RAW. This image is a case in point; the power of the white balance adjustment is so far reaching I don't think I'll go back to jpg soon. It took all the strength in my body to resist the urge to turn the sky bullfrog green! In this instance, I switched the WB to "shade" in LR3, boosting the warmth significantly. It's another shot with my old 18-200mm Sigma which casts Cyan-end CA along any silhouette lines, so I dropped the Aqua saturation to zero, clearly adding a bit more warmth.

Hope everyone is fantastically well and having a great week. Happy Diwali and Fireworks Night to all!

Hail on the Back of a Cow

These are pictures from an odd hail storm that we had. It happened all of a sudden and just dumped tons of hail on everything, then stopped and cleared up again.

These are models from an egytian tomb. There is a whole series of food preparation ones but I only look pictures of the most egregiously anti-vegetarian ones.
